Sainsbury’s musical advert just won Christmas – thanks to James Corden

Sainsbury’s have revealed their new Christmas advert, and everyone is LOVING it.

Fending off competition with the likes of John Lewis and M&S releasing tear-jerking Christmas ads this year, the supermarket chain enlisted the help of British talk show host James Corden to add that extra bit of magic.

The film used stop-frame animation techniques, and laser-printed puppets made by Mackinnon and Saunders, the same company that made the Fantastic Mr Fox puppets.

According to The Telegraph, the set took 16 weeks to build, 420 hours to shoot, and eight weeks of post-production.

The story is told through an original song sung by British actor James Corden, and composed by Flight of the Conchords Bret McKenzie. The song will also be made available on Spotify.

The heartwarming advert tells the story of Dave during the busy Christmas season, who is overwhelmed with things to do and keeps missing his kid’s bedtime. However, he soon finds a way to clone himself, giving him more time with his family.

“The advert reflects a typical family juggling everything they have to at Christmas time, we just hope it puts a smile on people’s faces”, said Sarah Kilmartin, head of Sainsbury’s campaign.

The Christmas campaign will raise much-needed funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital, with profits from a gingerbread “Dave” and an animation kit (£5) helping to fund accommodation for families near the hospital.
