Little Mix star admits battle with anorexia got ‘out of control’

Jade Thirlwall has admitted that her battle with anorexia got out of control.

The Little Mix star developed the life-threatening illness when she was 13 years old.

“My periods stopped and things were getting out of control but I don’t think I really cared about what was happening to me.

Jade revealed that she felt so depressed during her eating disorder but was too stubborn to listen to people’s advice.

“I felt so depressed at the time that I just wanted to waste away and disappear,” she told the Mirror.

“Anorexia is a self-destructive thing and you become stubborn, so when people are trying to tell you something you get it into your head that they’re against you and you’re not going to listen.”

Destructive: The singer thought people were against her and didn’t listen to their help

When the X Factor star’s weight plummeted down to six stone she was admitted into hospital and told if she didn’t get help, she would die.

“It took going to hospital to make me realise that it wasn’t a game, it was something really serious.

“They sat me down in the clinic and were quite tough at first, spelling it out: ‘You’re destroying your body and if you keep doing this you will die.'”

What made her change her attitude and get better was when she saw her friend who was also suffering from anorexia end up in a specialist unit in hospital.

“It shocked me into making a change,” she adds.
