Jimmy joked about the wage and said that he thinks “it’s illegal to pay nothing.”

“I’m not sure I was supposed to reveal this. But nobody told me not to. I consider this their fault,” he said on the US morning show Kevin & Ben.

When asked if the pay was on par with what previous Oscars hosts Chris Rock and Billy Crystal, he said “That’s what they told me.”

Jimmy also admitted that he wasn’t the Oscars producers first choice and he was actually the fifteenth person on their list.

“They asked like 14 people and they all said no and then there was me. I absolutely was surprised,” he added.

The awards won’t be the 49-year-old’s first time working with the Academy Awards having previously hosted his own Oscars after show on ABC the past few years.

The 89th Academy Awards take place on Sunday, February 26th 2017 in Los Angeles.
