Irish stars of TV and film have expressed their sadness at the loss of comedian Rick Mayall.
The much loved actor, who recently starred in RTE comedy Damo and Ivor died this morning aged 56.
Roscommon actor Chris O’Dowd led the tributes on Twitter.

“Very sad to hear about Rik Mayall’s passing. ‘Bottom’ was a huge part of my youth. Even his single tweet was funny,” he wrote.
Father Ted writer Graham Linehan followed suit, writing: “Ah, dammit, I just heard the news. Mayall was one of the funniest people who ever lived. F*** everything.”
Even model Rosanna Davison expressed her sorrow:
“RIP #RikMayall, I’m so sad to hear he’s passed away – Extremely talented actor. Thoughts with his friends & family. X”
