Bridget Jones’s Baby director kept father’s identity a secret from cast

The director of Bridget Jones’s Baby kept the father’s identity under wraps from the stars of the movie.

It has been revealed that co-stars Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth and Patrick Dempsey had no idea who fathered Bridget’s beloved child until cameras started rolling for the big reveal in the film.

The movie follows the three characters, Bridget Jones (Renee), Mark Darcy (Colin) and Jack Qwant (Patrick) as they try to discover which man in their love triangle is the father of Bridget’s baby – and it turns out, they didn’t know in real life either!

“They never actually wrote the ending in the script. I guess you gotta go out of your way to keep a secret these days!” Renee said on U.S. breakfast show Today.

“They just had a bunch of Xs and Ys (to conceal the identity of the baby’s father in the script), and on the day that they shot (the reveal scene) they just moved men and babies around!”

Renee, who hasn’t starred as Bridget Jones since 2004, admitted that although she was slightly terrified when returning to the role – she had so much fun.

“She’s so familiar in so many ways and it was such a happy reunion because I love this character and I love playing her. It is so much fun, and to be back with everybody, all my friends, on the set, I mean, heaven!

“(But) also a little terrifying because it’s been a while, (you have to) get back in the saddle, and you just don’t want to mess it up because I have so much affection for her and I recognise that she holds a lot of meaning for a lot of people,” she added.
