Taoiseach requests meeting with Mayor in bid to make Garth Brooks concerts happen

An Taoiseach Enda Kenny is set to meet with Dublin City Council in hopes of resolving the Garth Brooks drama.

It has emerged that Enda Kenny has requested a meeting between Dublin’s City Manager and Lord Mayor in hopes of saving the Garth Brooks’ Croke Park gigs.

A spokesperson said: “If a positive outcome could be facilitated, we would certainly consider that.”

Earlier this evening a letter written to Irish promoter Peter Aiken from Garth Brooks was released.

It came after Garth pleaded to allow the shows to still go ahead.

In the emotional letter the US country star asked the head of Aiken Promotions to reinstate the full five gigs planned at Croke Park.

“I was informed yesterday that the shows are cancelled and the refunds will begin on Monday,” he said.

“I cannot begin to tell you how badly my heart is breaking right now. I hope you understand that to play for 400,000 would be a dream, but to tell 160,000 of those people that they are not welcome would be a nightmare.

And in the emotional letter, Garth insists he can’t condone the decision to cancel two gigs.

“To do what the city manager suggests (play three shows and not all five) means I agree that is how people should be treated and I just can’t agree with that,” he said.

“Our guys are still en route and if there is any chance that the five planned concerts can be salvaged.”

“And nobody is being let down then we can proceed as planned until the refunds begin.

“If you tell me ‘Garth, thanks but it’s all over’. I will cease my efforts and bring our people and gear back to the States.

“If you think for any reason that the ‘powers that be’ in Ireland can fix this, then I will faithfully go to the last second.”

It came after Aiken Promotions yesterday announced all five shows had been axed.

It was understood that Garth took the decision after discovering legal action by a resident against them – however he hints that Aiken made this decision now.

X Factor judge Louis Walsh has insisted the shows not going ahead will harm our chances of getting big acts in the future.
