Beyonce’s Lemonade hit with legal trouble

Beyoncé is being sued over allegedly copying Lemonade visuals from independent filmmaker, Matthew Fulks.

Matthew Fulks created a short film, called Palinoia, which is being compared parallel to the singer’s trailer for her latest hit.

The director claimed that he sent Bryan Younce, Beyoncé’s collaborator and Columbia Records executive, his film last summer.

The complaint, obtained by Hollywood Reporter, claims that Beyoncé’s trailer copied many aspects of the indie film, including mood, setting, plot, and pace.

“The LEMONADE trailer is substantially similar to the PALINOIA work, including, but not limited to: the PALINOIA Work’s visual and auditory elements, visual and auditory sequences, themes, format, mood, setting, plot,and pace, all of which create aprotectable total concept and feel,” the document states.

“The LEMONADE trailer is approximately sixty seconds long. It contains nine visual elements that are substantially similar to visual elements found in the PALINOIA work.”

The visual elements cited included “graffiti and persons with heads down,” “red persons with eyes obscured,” “parking garage,” “stairwell,” “black and white eyes,” “title card screens,” “the grass scene,” “feet on the street,” and “side-lit ominous figures,”

Beyonce’s representative’s have yet to respond to the complaint.
