Angelina Jolie ‘had to take action for the health of the family’

The actress' soon-to-be ex-husband Brad Pitt was being investigated for violent behaviour towards their children

A rep for Angelina Jolie has said that she had to take action against Brad Pitt for the health and safety of her family.

The actress is divorcing her husband after an alleged incident that took place on a flight between Brad and their eldest son, Maddox – which led to Brad being investigated for child abuse.

However, the actor’s investigation has since been closed by the L.A. County Dept. of Children and Family Services.

“Angelina said from the beginning that she felt she had to take action for the health of the family,” the rep for the star said.

Angelina was granted custody of her children after a gruelling battle, but the kids will be granted “therapeutic visits” with Brad.

“[She] is relieved that after their 8-week involvement, the DCFS is now satisfied the safeguards are put in place that will allow the children to heal,” the rep told TMZ.com.

The publication reported that sources close to the mother-of-six claim she said that she feels the kids would be at risk if Brad was to receive joint custody.
