13 Going On 30 is being made into a Broadway Musical

13 Going On 30 is being made into a Broadway Musical, and we actually can’t contain our excitement.

According to Deadline, Revolution Studios is teaming with veteran producers Andy Fickman, Dean Stolber and Todd Garner to mount a Broadway musical version of the hit 2004 romantic comedy.

Fickman will direct the show, which will be penned by the film’s screenwriters Josh Goldsmith and Cathy Yuspa, while music and lyrics will be manned by Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner (Broadway’s First Date).

Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo, Judy Greer and Andy Serkis starred in the 2004 film, which brought in over $96 million at the box office.

The story follows Jenna, a teenager who dreams of escaping the social pressures and humiliation of middle school. With the help of some “wishing dust,” she finds herself transformed overnight into a glamorous career woman who seems to have everything Jenna ever wanted — except her childhood best friend Matt.

As she learns more about adult life and the path she took to get where she is, Jenna realises there’s much more to happiness than being popular.

Fickman says the story “has all the elements of a great musical: comedy, romance an empowering message — and a touch of magic.”

Fans of the hit movie will know that it included a spontaneous group performance of Michael Jackson’s Thriller, as well as a rendition of Love Is A Battlefield. While most of the show’s music will be original, they haven’t ruled out licensing Thriller for the stage production.
