This is how Prince Harry and Meghan Markle honoured Princess Diana on the 23rd anniversary of her death

The Princess of Wales tragically died in a car crash back in 1997

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle honoured Princess Diana by planting her favourite flowers with a group of vulnerable pre-school children, on the anniversary of her death.

The Duke of Sussex was just 12 when his mother was killed in a car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997.

On the 23rd anniversary of her death, Harry and Meghan made a surprise visit to the Assistance League of Los Angeles Preschool Learning Center, which provides free early learning to low-income families in LA.

During their visit, Harry and Meghan helped some of the children plant forget-me-nots, one of Diana’s favourite blooms.

Sharing photos from their visit on social media, the Assistance League of Los Angeles wrote: “The children of our Preschool Learning Center got a wonderful surprise when The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited yesterday! ❤️”

“In addition to helping the children replant the Preschool Learning Center’s garden, they spent time with them, sharing their appreciation for nature and helping to instill the importance of healthy eating. We truly appreciate their time and care for our students. ????”

“For more than 100 years, Assistance League of Los Ángeles has been providing early education services to children in need. Our nationally-accredited preschool instructs 40 students from low-income L.A. families,” they added.

The news comes after the couple recently volunteered at a charity event organised by Baby2Baby, which provides basic necessities for families in need.

Harry and Meghan have volunteered for a number of charities in Los Angeles since they moved there back in March.

The Duke and Duchess had been living in Tyler Perry’s mansion in Beverly Hills, before they purchased their first US home in June – which is based in Santa Barbara.
