The Wanted’s Tom Parker reveals why he doesn’t like talking about his cancer battle

Tom Parker has revealed why he doesn’t like talking about his ongoing battle with cancer.

Last October, The Wanted star told fans that he had been diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour, and was undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Speaking on BBC Breakfast, Tom said: “To be honest I don’t really like talking about it because I’m all about the positive mindset.”

“It’s not that I’m ignoring cancer, but I just don’t want to pay it any attention,” he continued.

“The more attention you pay it the more it consumes your life.”

“I don’t want it to consume my life I’ve got kids, I’ve got a family,” Tom explained.

The star shares two children with his wife Kelsey Hardwick – a son named Bodhi, and a daughter named Aurelia.

Tom also opened up about undergoing chemotherapy, and how it affected him.

“A bad day would be, wake up can’t eat anything, chemo really took it out of me. It’s the appetite. You can’t eat anything and then obviously you’re losing weight,” he explained.

“I lost about three and a half stone in about three weeks. And then to try and get that back on again, it’s easy to lose weight but putting it back on is really really hard.”

The Wanted recently announced their comeback, and are set to perform for the first time since their reunion at Tom’s upcoming Stand Up To Cancer gig.

The event, which will be hosted by Roman Kemp & Sonny Jay from Capital FM, will raise much-needed funds for cancer charities.

The line-up also includes Liam Payne, KSI, Becky Hill, Sigrid and McFly.

Tom said: “I really am so looking forward to this event. It has been a real pleasure to put together and I am so grateful for all the support I have had from all these brilliant artists.”

“Now the news is out that my band will be performing too, it really is going to be a special night for so many reasons.”
