The Queen has lead tributes to Prince George on his birthday.

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s eldest son turns 7 today, and Kensington Palace has released new pictures of the young prince to mark the occasion.

The monarch’s official Twitter account posted a sweet message to the birthday boy this morning, alongside a new photo of George – which was taken by the Duchess of Cambridge.

“Wishing Prince George a very happy birthday today!” the post read.

George’s grandfather Prince Charles and his wife Camilla also sent their best wishes to the birthday boy through The Clarence House Twitter account.

After releasing two new photos of George to the public, William and Kate thanked people for their best wishes on Instagram.

Via their Kensington Royal account, the couple wrote: “Thank you everyone for your very kind wishes on Prince George’s birthday today!”
