Stormzy pledges £500k to fund college for underprivileged students

Stormzy has pledged £500,000 to help fund college and university for underprivileged students.

The rapper set up the charity Merky Foundation in June, aiming to give away £10million to different organisations in the next decade to fight racial inequality.

The Black Heart Foundation’s Each Day Every Day campaign, which raises money for young people from under-resourced and under-represented communities, will be the first organisation to benefit from Stormzy’s generosity.

A spokesman for the Merky Foundation said: “Their Each Day Every Day campaign is a brilliant initiative and we are elated that our donation has played a key part in helping them achieve their target.”

Ric Lewis, who founded the Black Heart Foundation, said the organisation is “invigorated” by the generous donation.

“Their contribution is an amazing testament to their vision and commitment to higher and further education for ambitious, hardworking young people from the most under-resourced and under-represented communities in our society.”

“With their support we will reach another 50 young people, taking the total number of scholars we can help to 250.”
