Sophie Turner has admitted that being a single mother is “such a struggle” following her divorce from Joe Jonas.
On September 5, 2023, the Jonas Brothers star filed for divorce from the Game of Thrones star after four years of marriage.
It was later confirmed the divorce was settled in legal documents obtained by TMZ.
Sophie and Joe share two children – a four-year-old daughter named Willa and a two-year-old daughter named Delphine.
The Game of Thrones star confessed to the Sunday Times Culture magazine: “It’s such a struggle being a single mother.”
“Joan doesn’t go about it in the best way – but it is amazing to see her really fighting for her daughter,” referencing the character she plays in her latest project.
“It’s also really important for kids to see just how hard parents work for them.”
“There’s so much shame that comes with motherhood,” she continued.
“You go to work, you’re shamed. If you don’t go to work, you’re shamed.”
The terms of the finalization between Sophie and Joe were marked confidential in the legal documents, but the pair were on a path to a settlement.
According to Today, the Jonas Brothers star filed the divorce papers in Miami Dade County, stating that “the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken.”
TMZ reported that the couple was set to end their four-year marriage after Joe had retained a divorce lawyer.
The following day, the pair confirmed their separation in a joint statement.
The former couple, who share two children, wrote: “After four wonderful years of marriage, we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage.
“There are many speculative narratives as to why, but, truly, this is a united decision, and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.”
Joe and Sophie’s statement came after the MailOnline reported that she “felt trapped” in their marriage and “isn’t ready” for the settled life her husband wanted.
A friend told the publication: “Sophie feels like she’s only just waking up to what her life and reality really is.”
“She became famous at a very young age, then married and had kids at a young age and never really had the teenage years of sleeping around and just having carefree fun with friends.”
“She feels like her life has stalled after Game of Thrones, and so has her personal life. Since the kids came along, she’s feeling trapped,” the insider continued.
“She’s the only person in her tight friendship group who is married with two children.”
“Now she feels that she wants to make up for the time she’s lost as a young person. He (Joe) wants a more settled life but she’s not ready for that because she feels that she’s not even had a teen or young adult life.”
Joe, 34, and Sophie, 27, famously married in Las Vegas in May 2019 following the Billboard Music Awards.
One month later, the couple hosted a second ceremony at Château de Tourreau in Sarrians, France.
