Sky Sports presenter devastated after wife dies just three days after being diagnosed with leukaemia

Sky Sports presenter Simon Thomas has revealed his wife has died suddenly, in an emotional statement.

The former Blue Peter presenter took to Twitter to announce that his wife Gmmea, died just three days after being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia.

Simon said he was “crushed with indescribable pain” following the death of his 40-year-old wife.

“Today I am crushed with indescribable pain,” he wrote.

“Just three days after falling ill with Acute Myloid Leukaemia, my dear wife Gemma passed away yesterday evening surrounded by her family and friends.

“If you are a prayer – pray for my boy Ethan. 8yrs, precious and in bits. Thank you.”

Acute myeloid leukaemia is a type of blood cancer that affects the bone marrow.

According to reports Gemma started feeling unwell last weekend and went to the doctor three times before then going to hospital.

Speaking to The Mirror, Simon said their son Ethan, aged just 8, has said he wants “mummy back”.

“He said he wants Playmobil and other gifts for Christmas, but most of all ‘I want mummy back’, and I can’t help him with that.”

The Sky Sports anchor said his wife’s condition deteriorated rapidly within hours, she was then transferred to another hospital and begun chemotherapy immediately.

“For the first couple of days she was responding well,” he said.

“But yesterday morning she went downhill very quickly. She had bleeding on the brain. I was told yesterday morning she would be gone in a few hours.’
