The Queen formally gives her consent to the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

The Queen has given her formal consent to the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

In an official statement from Buckingham Palace, the 91-year-old monarch referred to Prince Harry as her “most dearly beloved grandson”.

According to the Daily Mail, the statement read, “I declare My Consent to a Contract of Matrimony between My Most Dearly Beloved Grandson Prince Henry Charles Albert David of Wales and Rachel Meghan Markle, which Consent I am causing to be signified under the Great Seal and to be entered in the Books of the Privy Council.”

The news comes after it was reported that Meghan spent Mother’s Day with the Queen, ahead of attending their first public event together on Commonwealth Day.

Meghan is set to marry Prince Harry on May 19 in St. George’s Chapel on the grounds of Windsor Castle.
