Prince William has revealed the “worst present” he ever bought his wife Kate Middleton.

Speaking on That Peter Crouch Podcast on BBC Radio Five Live, the Duke of Cambridge admitted Kate will “never let [him] forget” the unusual gift.

“I did get my wife a pair of binoculars once,” he confessed.

“That was early on in the courtship that was. I wrapped them. They were really nice. I was trying to convince myself about it.”

“I was like, ‘but these are really amazing, look how far you can see!’ She was looking at me going, ‘they’re binoculars, what’s going on?'”

“It didn’t go well,” he added, “Honestly I have no idea why I bought her a pair of binoculars.”

Prince William also discussed his Heads Up campaign with the former English footballer, following the announcement that the entire UK football family has signed a joint declaration committing to make mental health a key priority.

“We all have mental health, and we all have to stay mentally fit… It’s a strength to talk about your mental health, it’s not a weakness. You know if you’re not feeling well, something’s bothering you, talk about it – it’s not a problem.”

The royal couple recently celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary in April, after tying the knot in 2011.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge first met in 2001, while they were both students at the University of St Andrews.
