Paloma Faith slams BRIT Awards over lack of female acts

The outspoken singer has criticised the lack of diversity

Paloma Faith has hit out at the BRIT Awards for not having enough female singers scheduled to perform at the star-studded event, which takes place at the end of February.

The 36-year-old was speaking to The Mirror, when she was asked whether it was a good time to be a woman in pop music.

“That’s what they keep telling us, but it looks like all men performing again except for one woman at the Brits,” she said.

The comment comes as only one female performer, Dua Lipa, has been announced to perform at the popular music ceremony.

The ‘New Rules’ singer has 5 BRIT nominations, beating Ed Sheeran, and making Brits history as to date no female artist has ever received five nominations in a single year.

She’s set to perform alongside her male counterparts Stormzy, Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran who have all been booked.

The full line-up has yet to be announced, but it’s believed more female artists will be announced.

Shockingly, Sam Smith and his No.1 album ‘The Thrill of It All’ received no BRIT nominations this year.

Despite the controversy, Paloma posted a video on Twitter to thank her fans and to say how grateful she is to still be in the music business.

Paloma is nominated for yet another BRIT, British female solo artist, which she won in 2015.
