Maura Higgins and Molly-Mae Hague claim they ‘nearly died’ on boat trip

They're currently holidaying in Crete, despite guidelines against non-essential travel

Maura Higgins and Molly-Mae Hague have claimed they “nearly died” on a boat trip in Crete.

Taking to her Instagram Story, Maura told fans they boarded “what we thought was a beautiful yacht” this morning, before things took a turn for the worst.

Maura said, “We nearly died, and that is the truth,” before she turned the camera to Molly-Mae who said, “I don’t know how I’m here right now.”

The 29-year-old noted that Molly and her sister Zoe were “petrified” despite being strong lifeguards, and that she and her hairdresser Jay Birmingham were “nearly vomiting”.

Maura then said: “I’m gonna put up some footage so you can see how bad it was…”

In the footage, Maura can be seen crouched in the corner, while Zoe and Jay asked the crew to turn back as the boat rocked back and forth.

The Irish beauty also shared a photo of Jay with his head on the table, clearly distressed over the situation.

Molly-Mae also shared the same photo of Jay, and wrote: “The reality of our boat day. I will never take another day in my life for granted again.”

“We genuinely thought we were going to die. I’m not even being dramatic. ”

She also shared footage of them on the boat and wrote: “Basically the waves were that bad the boat almost capsizing and the drivers didn’t speak English.”

“There were no life jackets. Baring in mind me and my sis and both fully qualified lifeguards, we were both fearing for our lives.”

The group are currently holidaying in Crete, despite current guidelines against non-essential travel.

Earlier this week, Molly-Mae sparked backlash on social media, after she shared a rant about “unhelpful and rude” airline staff.

The Love Island star jetted to Greece on Monday, and took to her Instagram Story to complain about her “stressful airport experience”.

“Never had a more stressful airport experience in my life,” she wrote, after she failed to fill out an essential form.

“If you’re flying to Greece/ Crete or anywhere you need a QR code for then please please please make sure you do it 48 hours before your flight.”

“I did mine last night and when I arrived at the airport I was told I wasn’t allowed to fly today luckily my sister had put me on the ‘notes’ section of her QR code form and it meant I was allowed to fly (shoutout to the group of people who asked for a pic and told us that this was allowed!).”

“I had literally booked my car home and was sending Zoe by herself,” she added.

“It is SO strict and the easyJet staff were so so unhelpful and rude. Admittedly this was my fault however there is nothing on the website that tells you about a time frame.”

“I felt so bad for all the families and couples that were in the same position as me but hadn’t done the notes section thing so I just wanted to warn everyone.”

Greek Authorities have advised that all passengers travelling to Greece complete an online Passenger Location Form at least 48 hours prior to entering the country.

A spokesperson for easyJet told the Mirror that the precaution was necessary during the coronavirus pandemic.

They said: “Like all airlines, easyJet is currently required by the Greek authorities to ensure that all passengers travelling from the UK to Greece are able to present verification of a completed passenger locator form to be able to travel.”

“We know that this is different to how many of our customers are used to travelling, which is why we are providing clear guidance on what customers must do to prepare for their flight and are notifying them of any requirement to complete a form when booking and ahead of their trip via email and our Flight Tracker.”

Doireann Garrihy shared her thoughts on Molly-Mae’s rant earlier this week, revealing that her mind was “blown” over the Love Island star’s post.

She tweeted: “There are ppl travelling abroad. Then there are ppl travelling abroad and sharing it everywhere. THEN there are ppl travelling abroad, sharing it everywhere and complaining about how USHERLY RUDE the airline staff were about having health forms filled out. #themindblows.”

Other Twitter users also bashed Molly-Mae’s statement, with one labelling the 21-year-old “entitled”.
