Love Island star claims she fell into depression after the show ended

Former Love Island contestant Zara Holland claimed that she was on anti-depressants following her time on the reality TV show in 2016.

The Former Miss Great Britain title holder took to social media in the aftermath of talk show Jeremy Kyle being axed, to say:

“Everyone’s thoughts of Jeremy Kyle getting axed?” she tweeted. “Shouldn’t Love Island too then?”

Zara starred on the show alongside Sophie Gradon, who passed away from an apparent suicide last summer.

In March of this year, Mike Thalassitis, a contestant on the show in 2017, also took his own life.

Speaking to The Daily Mail, Zara said: “You think you’re on a summer holiday and you might find love, but you are in a posh prison where you don’t know what time it is and a voice in a wall.”

“I honestly believe I was brainwashed,” she claimed.

In a statement issued in March to Heart Online, ITV said that its after-care procedures are “continuous” for each Love Islander.

“Care for our Islanders is a process the show takes very seriously and is a continuous process for all those taking part in the show.”

“We ensure that all of our Contributors are able to access psychological support before, during and after appearing on the show. The programme will always provide ongoing support when needed and where appropriate.”

“We also discuss at length with all of our Islanders, before and after the show, how their lives might change and they have access to support and advice to help with this.”
