Liam Payne to feature in Netflix talent show ‘despite no blessing from family’

According to reports, Netflix is moving forward with streaming the TV talent show that Liam Payne shot before his passing, even though his family hasn’t given their final approval yet.

On October 16th, police officials confirmed that the One Direction singer had died after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Argentina.

According to reports, the 31-year-old had been acting erratically and was escorted back to his hotel room before he fell to his death from the third floor.

Before his passing, Liam Payne, former Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland and The Pussycat Dolls star Nicole Scherzinger came together to create a band in a new Netflix show.

The singers examined the contestants’ chemistry as they form their groupings in the new competition series.

Netflix has compared it to Love Is Blind, a series which sees contestants choose someone to marry without ever meeting them face to face.

Following his unexpected passing, Netflix sought to speak with the star’s family, and it was reported last month that they insisted on obtaining their consent before the show could air.

However, now, The Sun has reported the streaming site has decided to release the series without the final sign off from Liam’s family.

An insider told the publication: “They spoke with Liam’s family as they didn’t want to progress the project without taking their feelings into consideration.”

“The family got the sense that this was a celebration of Liam, an image of positivity. He was doing what he did best as a true boyband star,” the source continued.

“But they hadn’t given it a final stamp of approval and as far as they were concerned were still discussing what the show would look like. So they were surprised by the announcement.”

Earlier this week, the vice president of Netflix’s unscripted series Jeff Gaspin confirmed talks were ongoing with Liam’s family.

He told The Mirror during a Next on Netflix 2025 news conference in London on Wednesday: “So Liam was part of Building The Band and we have been in touch with his family to discuss what role that will play.”

“There is nothing to announce yet. But we have been speaking with his family.”
