Jameela Jamil under fire for ‘body positivity’ photoshoot

Jameela Jamil has faced criticism for a recent photoshoot she starred in for Stylist Magazine.

The actress guest edited the edition of the mag, and was involved in a photo series called The Diet Destroyer within it’s pages.

However, the Good Place star has faced criticism for the clothing choices in the feature, as none of the pieces are available to women over a size 18.

In response, Jameela released a lengthy statement on her social media, saying that she is “extracting herself” from the body positivity community, and explained that the shoot was about diet culture and battling eating disorders.

“Had an overwhelmingly lovely and emotional response to today’s Stylist issue. But a small amount of people have mistaken my message to be about BoPo (body positivity),” she wrote.

“It isn’t. It’s just about eating disorder culture. I’ve been careful to take measures to extract myself from BoPo, as I’m slim.”

“A few have chosen to entirely disregard the good of the issue, because the size of the clothes I wear in our shoot only go up to a size 18.”

Jameela expressed that she hopes to continue pushing for more more inclusion in the fashion industry, but said that her job as a public figure involves wearing various brands that may not be inclusive as a trade off to get her message heard.

She also highlighted that the magazine issue included writing by a diverse range of women, and was photoshop free.
