Jameela Jamil says she ‘100 percent stands by’ her comments about Karl Lagerfeld

Jameela Jamil has said that she “100 percent stands by” her comments about Karl Lagerfeld.

The actress spoke out about Karl’s controversies during his career shortly after his death and had a conversation with Cara Delevingne on Twitter about her comments.

Jameela sparked the online conversation when she retweeted an article which labelled Karl as a “misogynist”.

“I’m glad somebody said it. Even if it is a little soon. A ruthless, fat-phobic misogynist shouldn’t be posted all over the internet as a saint gone-too-soon. Talented for sure, but not the best person,” she wrote.

The actress received mixed reactions from her followers and Cara Delevingne responded by saying “stop bashing people for attention.”

The model later apologised for her reaction and had a conversation with Jameela on Twitter, in which they both discussed their views on Karl.

“I agree with you but please don’t call him a bad human, that is simply not fair. We should be talking about the people alive, in power, ruling the world who are hurting, destroying far more lives than this man who has passed only yesterday,” Cara said.

Jameela then ended their conversation by tweeting: “But cara (sic), his cruel words weren’t directed at you because you’re thin, and white, and incredibly privileged. So you don’t feel the pain of his bad behavior. There is never a good time to talk about this really. So much glory to someone who punched down, frequently. I’m sorry. X”.

The actress later tweeted about their thread and said: “This is a really interesting thread between two people with very different views who aren’t trying to win, or be rude, just trying to appeal to the other’s empathy. About Karl Lagerfeld.”

She returned to the social media platform last night and said that she could have waited longer to comment about Karl’s life, as her remarks came just hours after his death was reported.

“I could have waited a few days to say what I said about Karl, but watching the pain on here of the marginalized people he was so offensive about, as he was being glorified, hurt my heart.”

The 32-year-old added that she stands by her comments: “I 100 percent stand by what I said, but next time I’ll try and leave it a few days…”

Singer, Example also chimed in on the conversation and praised Jameela for speaking out about Karl’s controversies: “Nah well done you !!! I know people in the industry who always talked about what a s**t he was. And then today posted RIP images making out he was a saint !? Hopefully people think before they post going forward”.
