Jameela Jamil reveals why she was ‘immediately embarrassed’ when she first spoke to Meghan Markle

The actress is featured in the September issue of British Vogue - which Meghan guest-edited

Jameela Jamil has revealed why she was “immediately embarrassed” when she spoke to Meghan Markle for the first time.

The actress was recently featured on the cover of British Vogue’s Forces of Change issue, which was guest-edited by the Duchess of Sussex.

The 33-year-old was first approached to write an essay about gender equality and societal expectations of women by Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful several months ago – and at the time she had no idea that Meghan was involved.

Speaking to Grazia, Jameela said: “We weren’t told there was a guest editor, and definitely not that it was Meghan.”

Just a few days before Meghan’s guest-editor role was revealed, Jameela said: “Meghan called me herself. I missed the call three times before I finally answered, I wanted to punch myself!”

Jameela continued: “She explained that she’d guest-edited the issue, and apologised that the whole thing had been shrouded in so much secrecy.”

“She said she had chosen to feature me because she’d seen what I had been doing and was a fan. To know that she had followed my work with I Weigh meant a lot.”

The actress said Meghan was “warm, kind and actually very LOLs,” and said, “I had never met her before, but we chatted very openly. She told me how important gender equality was to her.”

Jameela also revealed that Meghan “said she loved The Good Place,” before adding, “I then felt immediately embarrassed that she had seen me joke about her on the show.”

Fans of the show will know that Jameela’s character on the show Tahani Al-Jamil claims that she was the one to introduce Meghan Markle to Prince Harry.

Poking fun at the matchmaker joke, Meghan told Jameela that she was “grateful to Tahani for introducing her to Harry.”

Jameela added: “I just replied, ‘You’re welcome.'”
