Giovanni Pernice pays tribute to Anton Du Beke for being the ‘support of my life’ following Strictly misconduct scandal

Giovanni Pernice has paid tribute to Anton Du Beke for being the “support of my life” following the recent Strictly misconduct scandal.

The professional dancer was criticised for his “militant approach to training” after his celebrity partner, Amanda Abbington, abruptly left the show in 2023.

The actress accused Giovanni of threatening or abusive behaviour, which he has vehemently denied.

Following the allegations, a probe was launched to investigate the pros’ behaviour during training with their celeb partners.

The report’s findings concluded that Giovanni was not abusive, did not make threats and was not intimidating.

It also found that there was no aggressive or physical contact between Giovanni and Amanda during their time on the show.

However, the BBC apologised to Amanda in the statement after some allegations were upheld in the report.

Now, during the first night of his tour, Last Dance, Giovanni paid tribute to the Strictly judge, telling the audience: “I like to think I became quite successful. I was selling out everywhere.”

“I was on a TV show with my best friend [Du Beke] so I felt like I was at the top of my game.”

“I was untouchable – a superhero. I felt like I had my army… my audience. But fate did have different plans for me.”

“You probably know it hasn’t been the greatest year for me. I’m finally able to talk about it, I felt like the world collapsed.”

The dancer continued: “I didn’t have anybody around me. People who were supposed to be my friends disappeared.”

“I felt left alone. Nobody wanted to see me. They didn’t want to be seen with me, because people would be like, ‘Oh you’re with him’.”

Giovanni added: “I’m still standing and thank god I did that tour last year with my best friend who was the support of my life.”
