Elton John reveals Sylvester Stallone and Richard Gere once FOUGHT over Princess Diana

The singer was close friends with Diana before her untimely death

Elton John has revealed that Sylvester Stallone and Richard Gere once FOUGHT over his late friend, Princess Diana.

In his new autobiography, the legendary singer recalls the time he threw a dinner party for Disney boss Jeffrey Katzenberg, when he was making the Lion King.

Guests invited to the party included Princess Diana, Richard Gere, Sylvester Stallone, George Michael, Richard Curtis and his wife Emma Freud.

Diana, who was separated from Prince Charles at the time, was “very taken” with Richard – who had recently split from Cindy Crawford.

According to the Daily Mail, Elton wrote: “They ended up sitting in front of the fireplace together, locked in rapt conversation. As the rest of us chatted, I couldn’t help notice a strange atmosphere in the room.”

“Judging by the kind of looks he kept shooting them, Diana and Richard Gere’s newly blossoming friendship was not going down well with Sylvester Stallone at all.”

Elton said Sylvester had specifically attended the party to meet Diana, and he ended up having words with Richard about her.

He wrote: “It transpired that David [Elton’s husband] discovered Sylvester Stallone and Richard Gere in the corridor, squaring up to each other, apparently about to settle their differences over Diana by having a fist-fight.”

“He’d managed to calm things down by pretending he hadn’t noticed what was going on — ‘Hey, guys! Time for dinner!’ — but Sylvester clearly still wasn’t happy.”

“I never would have come,’ he snapped, as David and I showed him to the door, ‘if I’d known Prince f***in’ Charming was gonna be here.'”

Princess Diana was sadly killed in a car crash back in 1997, and Elton famously performed ‘Candle in the Wind’ at her funeral.

Elton’s autobiography, titled ‘Me’, is set for release on October 15.
