Ed Sheeran told to ‘dye his hair black’ in order to make it in the music industry

Ed Sheeran was told to “dye his hair black” if he wanted to make it in the music industry.

The Grammy-winning singer rose to fame after releasing his debut track The A Team back in 2011, and is known for mixing acoustic songs with pop and hip-hop – as well as for his famous red hair.

However, Ed’s manager Stuart Camp has revealed that the songwriter’s first management company told the star to give up rapping and change his hair colour if he wanted to become famous.

Speaking to Straight Up podcast, Stuart shared: “The other management actually resigned from him because they said he wasn’t going anywhere.”

“He had to drop the looping pedal, dye his hair black and give up the rapping.”

Stuart also revealed that Ed was planning on releasing a new album next year, following his break from the music industry to enjoy being a first-time dad with his wife Cherry Seaborn.

“We’ve started recording now. We’ll probably put a record out this time next year,” Stuart added.

“I’m looking at a piece of paper that actually has the tracklisting for the album after the next one on it. He’s always one or two albums ahead.”
