Dr Alex George takes break from social media following death of his younger brother

Dr Alex George has announced that he will be taking a break from social media following the tragic death of his brother.

The Love Island star revealed that his younger brother Llyr had passed away last month, following a battle with his mental health.

On Sunday, Alex told his Instagram followers that he would be focusing on friends, family and his mental health while he took a few weeks off the online world.

“I have decided to take a few weeks off social media,” he wrote, “With everything that’s happened it’s important for my mental health that I take some time offline.”

“I am focusing on my family and friends as well as looking after myself. I’m also going to spend some time thinking and working on a few projects that are close to my heart.”

“Without doubt A&E will continue to keep me busy too. Thank you for your support and see you all in a few weeks ???? Stay safe and be kind to yourselves ????”

Alex previously revealed that he had been experiencing trolling over the loss of his brother, admitting he was “holding on by a thread”.

Taking to his Instagram Story, Alex shared a screenshot of the message, which read: “Your brother is dead get off social media.”

Alex responded by writing: “Imagine being this person. I’m holding [on] by a thread and you get people like this.”

In another post, Alex added: “I am honest and open with you all. The good, the bad and the ugly. There is so much that isn’t shared online of course.”

“So many of you are so kind and message me each day with well wishes. I often post to let you know I am still going strong x.”

Llyr sadly passed away just weeks before he was set to start medical school.

Announcing the news of his death last month, Alex told his followers: “I can’t believe I am actually writing this post. I have lost my beautiful little brother to mental health. I love you so much Llŷr. The kindest and most caring soul.”

“I was so proud of you starting medical school next month, you would have been the most incredible doctor. We are hurting so bad. No words can explain. As a family we are devastated. We love you and miss you so much. Please rest in peace x Our boy.”
