Dermot O’Leary quits hosting role after ten years

The presenter made the announcement on social media

Dermot O’Leary has stepped down from his role as host of the National Television Awards.

Taking to Instagram, the 45-year-old confirmed, “After ten years of proudly hosting the National Television Awards, I have decided it’s time to step down as host.”

“It’s been a tough decision because we have had a ball over the last decade, but ten years feels about right.”

“I would like to thank Indigo and my ITV family for a brilliant ten years and look forward to proudly passing on the baton in 2020 and a holiday in January.”

The news comes after Dermot came under fire for suggesting Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly didn’t deserve to win the Best Presenter gong ahead of this year’s NTAs.

However, the presenter later insisted that he was only joking.

Aside from hosting The X Factor, Dermot also presents a BBC Radio 2 show every Saturday morning, and hosts new game show Small Fortune on ITV.
