Danny John-Jules accuses Strictly Come Dancing judges of being ‘racist’ in resurfaced tweets

Danny John-Jules accused Strictly Come Dancing judges of being ‘racist’ in newly resurfaced tweets.

The actor is set compete in the dance competition later this year, despite the fact that he previously criticised the programme on Twitter.

Back in 2016, the 57-year-old claimed that the Strictly judges “always get rid of the black guy first”.

The Red Dwarf actor also compared the programme to Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother, as he replied to a fan who accused the programmes of being ‘racist’.

This isn’t the first time Strictly Come Dancing has faced racism accusations, as the show was also accused in 2015, after Anthony Ogogo was voted off.

The boxer was paired with professional dancer, Oti Mabuse, and they were the second contestants to be eliminated from the competition.

“It’s no wonder that I got partnered with Anthony and that we got voted off second week, obviously people at the BBC don’t want to see a black person win,” the dancer said at the time, before later retracting her comment.

The BBC programme also faced criticism in 2016 after actress, Tameka Empson, and presenters Naga Munchetty and Melvin Odoom, were the first three contestants to be voted off the competition.

And just last year, the show was slammed by fans as JLS singer, Aston Merrygold, was voted off the programme, despite being top of the leaderboard since the show started.

According to The Sun, Danny also said, “As long as I don’t have to dance or be in the same room as Craig or Bruno, great,” while at a charity event earlier this year.

A spokeswoman for the programme reportedly refused to comment on the racism accusations.

However, an insider told The Sun: “Every single year since it started bar three, a black or mixed-race person has either won or come second in Strictly. About as far from racist as you can get.”

Danny is yet to respond to his old tweets resurfacing.
