The singer was hoping to re-invent herself on stage

Cheryl has reportedly lost out on a massive West End role to TV presenter Caroline Flack.

According to The Sun, the singer wanted to re-invent herself by landing the lead role of Roxie Hart in the current London production of Chicago.

The mother-of-one was reportedly in advanced negotiations, but in the end, producers favoured Love Island host Caroline Flack.

Sources have told the paper that the decision to go with Caroline over Cheryl was made by producers in New York, who grew tired of her “diva requests”.

The iconic role of Roxie Hart was made famous by Renee Zellweger in the critically-acclaimed 2002 film.

It’s believed Caroline will sign her West End deal within the next few days, and she’ll start preparing for the role once she’s filmed the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special.

Alexandra Burke, who won The X Factor back in 2008, is currently playing the role of Roxie in the London production, supported by Blue star Duncan James as Billy Flynn.

UPDATE: Cheryl’s rep has since told Goss.ie, “We can confirm that Cheryl was approached with an offer to take the role but turned it down.”
