BBC launch HUGE new music festival – as Glastonbury takes a year off

The BBC have launched a huge new music festival, as Glastonbury Festival takes a year off.

The Biggest Weekend, as it’s being called, will take place May 25th-28th across four sites, in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, with hopes to attract over 175,000 music fans.

According to the BBC, all of the network’s music stations will be involved in broadcasting parts of the festival, while all performances are set to be streamed on the BBC’s app.

The festival will be for one year only and there are no plans for it to become an annual event.

Glastonbury takes a break every five to six years to prevent excessive damage to the site.

Bob Shennan, director of BBC radio and music, said in a statement, “BBC Music has a strong history of bringing the nation together for some special moments, and this is the biggest single music event ever attempted by the BBC.

“We will be celebrating the diversity of music from four different corners of the country, bringing the best UK music to the world and the best global music to the UK.”
