Love Island: Women’s Aid release a statement addressing Joe Garratt’s behavior

Women’s Aid have released a statement regarding Joe Garratt’s behaviour on this summer’s season of Love Island.

The sandwich connoisseur is currently coupled up with surfer Lucie Donlan, and fans have been pointing out issues with his behaviour, branding it “controlling” and “gaslighting.”

Adina Claire, Co-Chief Executive of Women’s Aid, said: “Controlling behaviour is never acceptable.”

“With Love Island viewers complaining to Ofcom in record numbers about Joe’s possessive behaviour towards Lucie, more people are becoming aware of this and want to challenge it.”

“Abusive relationships often start off with subtle signs of control, so it’s important that it is recognised at an early stage.”

“Love Island viewers are now very vocal in calling out unhealthy behaviour between couples on the show, and this is a positive development.”

On the show, Joe has taken issue with Lucie speaking to male housemate Tommy Fury, and has said he hopes she will change her actions.

Last year, the domestic violence charity released a statement regarding contestant Adam Collard’s actions on the show, warning viewers against “emotional abuse.”
