WATCH: The John Lewis Christmas ad is HERE – featuring Moz the Monster

This will make your heart melt

The John Lewis Christmas ad has finally landed – and as always, it will make your heart melt.

The much-anticipated ad didn’t disappoint this year, as it tells the heartwarming tale of a little boy and his unlikely friendship with a seven foot monster called Moz.

The two-minute clip is centred around seven-year-old Joe who is kept awake at night by a snoring Moz, who sleeps under his bed.

Joe befriends the noisy Monster under his bed, but the two have so much fun together that he can’t get to sleep, leaving him tired by day – so for Christmas, Joe receives a gift to help him finally get a good night’s sleep.

The soundtrack was courtesy of Elbow, who reworked the Beatles classic Golden Slumbers for the £7 million Moz the Monster campaign.

The ad took 11 months from storyboard to screen, and was directed by Michel Gondry, and filmed in West London.

Identical twins Ethan and Tobias share the role of Joe, while Moz the Monster was played by two actors sealed into a massive hairy outfit, instead of using a CGI version.

According to the Mirror, a John Lewis spokesperson said, “There is a great deal of expectation every year but we just try to create an ad that has a human truth at the end of it. Everyone has upped their game and it’s exciting to see what they are doing.”

The ad will make its TV debut at 9.30pm tonight during the Gogglebox break on Channel 4 and on Sky channels, with 90, 60 and 20-second versions also played across commercial networks.
