WATCH: Ant Mc Partlin thanks Declan Donnelly for supporting him through ‘tough year’ in emotional speech

The telly duo won big on the night

Everyone’s favourite telly duo, Ant and Dec, won big at the National Television Awards last night – and it was an incredible emotional night for all.

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly collected three gongs at the NTAs on Tuesday night, and Ant thanked his “best mate” Dec for helping him through “a tough year” in an emotional speech.

For the 17th time – the pair nabbed the Best TV Presenter award. They also won best challenge show for I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! and the inaugural Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award for Ant And Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

When picking up the Best Presenter award, Ant admitted that he was “shaking” before saying, “It’s been quite an emotional night tonight. It’s been quite a year. It’s been quite a tough 12 months, so winning this tonight means a lot.”

“I’d personally like to thank my family, my friends – some of who are here tonight. I love you. Thank you very much. And thank you to all of you for your support, it really, really means to me and has helped me get through.”

Turning to Dec, Ant added, “Thanks to you, little guy. I love you, man. Let’s not cry.”

Dec continued, “It has been quite the year, but this has really topped it off. Thank you so, so much to everybody who’s taken the time to vote for us – it is really, really appreciated, possibly this year more than any other. We thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts.”

During Ant’s speech, the camera panned to an emotional looking Scarlett Moffat, Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.

The duo made their first public appearance since Ant announced he was splitting from his wife Lisa earlier this month, after 11 years of marriage and over 20 years together.

It followed his stint in rehab last year for an addiction to prescription drugs, following a botched knee operation.
