Voice of Ireland bosses tried desperately to sign Imelda May as a coach for the new series.

Co-presenter Eoghan McDermott told Goss.ie that producers tried to splash the cash for the Rockabilly singer.

They had hoped that she would be able to take over Dolores O’Riordan’s slot – after she quit due to her commute between Ireland and Canada.

“I know they were totally dying to get Imelda May but I am not sure that will happen. In fact I am pretty sure it won’t happen because she is so busy,” Eoghan revealed.

The 2FM star also revealed that he would love to see Sinead O’Connor becoming a judge on the talent show.

“I would love Sinead to do it, I think it would be unbelievable. I think she is absolutely incredible her new stuff is amazing and if she would be willing,” he said.

“I have never seen her in anything like that or handed that kind of stuff – but if she would be game ball.”

Meanwhile the Voice co-host was seen partying at Niall Horan’s star studded birthday bash in London.

Eoghan who spends his time between Ireland and the UK joked that their was “minimal” drinking at the bash.

When asked about the bash, Eoghan said: “it was great – all very civilized mostly family and yeah minimal alcohol.

“We just got him a photomontage scrapbook. That was it. It just went down a storm.”
