Vincent Browne is ‘very happy’ Pat Kenny is taking over

Vincent Browne has revealed that he’s very happy Pat Kenny is taking over his Wednesday slot.

The broadcaster, who returned to Tonight With Vincent Browne on Monday, failed to show up to TV3’s autumn season launch sparking rumours he wasn’t impressed moving to a Thursday night slot.

“I’m very happy about not doing Wednesdays. I’d be even happier if Pat Kenny did Thursdays as well,” he said.

Vincent is back hosting his current affairs panel show every Monday and Thursday for the autumn season.

The Limerick native admitted that he “does not care about limelight” if Pat is taking some away.

“It would be less work,” he told the Irish Independent.

The station’s Head of News and Current Affairs, Andrew Hanlon, has said that there is no competition between the two because they both are different types of broadcasters.

“We have got Vincent Browne and Vincent’s doing a great job, but he’s doing a different thing to what I would call early peak current affairs,” he explained.

“Vincent does a chat show that blends current affairs in with it.

“We wanted to do another format of current affairs and in that genre we thought there was only one go-to guy and that is what Pat does.”

Pat spoke to Goss.ie earlier this summer about his move to TV3 saying it wasn’t what RTE expected.
