Victoria Smurfit glad she can grab 'cougar roles' after moving to US

Actress Victoria Smurfit has admitted she’s glad to be able to grab “cougar” roles since moving to America.

The TV star said starring in Dracula – which has now been axed – has given her a lot more offers.

“It’s opened up a very large cougar door, which has been fun. It was great, hilarious,” the 40-year-old said.

But Victoria admits that a lot of her offers have come by being based in America, which has truly been the land of opportunity for her since moving there three years ago.

“There’s so much more opportunity there. It does mean you are getting rejected more often because you’re in more doors, so that gives you more of a crab-like ability too,” she said.

“I now have such a tough shell, but I can take it off very easily, because you need to be able to take it off.”

But Victoria – whose latest movie Among Ravens premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh – told the Irish Independent that she is sad Dracula which she starred in with Jonathan Rhys Meyers was cancelled.

However it has made her personal life a lot easier.

“I was backwards and forwards from Budapest to Los Angeles every couple of
weeks, managing kids and life and all that sort of good stuff,” she said.

“So it would have been hard to do it again but at the same token we wouldn’t have said no, it’s just one of those things.”
