RTE weather girls – including Jean Byrne and Evelyn Cusack – are set to be poached by UTV Ireland to front their bulletins.
The up-start channel, which will start a TV war when it goes live on New Year’s Day, wants to bring in forecasters with household names for viewers.
Already, UTV Ireland have hired ex-Late Late Show host Pat Kenny and TV3 new anchor Claire Brock – and are expected to unveil weather presenters in coming days.

But sources told the Star that Jean Byrne, Evelyn Cusack, Audrey McGrath and Siobhan Ryan have been approached behind the scenes.
They are also looking at bringing in TV3’s Martin King and TG4’s well-known weather girls to the station for their one-hour evening news programme.
Yesterday, a UTV spokeswoman refused to confirm who has been approached but said they will be announcing weather presenters soon.

She added: “In the meantime, we cannot comment on any aspect of the recruitment process or the potential appointments.”
An RTE spokeswoman said they wouldn’t comment on whether UTV had approached any of their team.
