Sex Education star confirmed as female lead role for season two of Bridgerton

Simone Ashley has been confirmed as the female lead for season two of Bridgerton.

The Sex Education star will play Kate Sharma, the love interest of Anthony Bridgerton, in the hit period drama – which is set to begin production this Spring.

The news was announced via the official Netflix Twitter account, teasing: “Kate is a smart, headstrong young woman who suffers no fools – Anthony Bridgerton very much included.”

Set in early 19th Century London, the series follows eight close-knitted siblings of the powerful Bridgerton family, as they attempt to find love.

While season one focused in on Phoebe Bridgerton and Simon, The Duke Of Hastings’ love story, season two will focus on Anthony’s quest for love.

Julie Andrews narrated the first series as Lady Whistledown, an anonymous writer who’s regular column details the most scandalous gossip in the world of Regency London high society.

Throughout the season, viewers were kept guessing as to the identity of the mysterious writer, with the finale finally unveiling who was behind the gossip column.

The show is based on novels by Julia Quinn, who has written eight books in the sequel, with show creator Chris Van Dusen previously teasing eight seasons.

Season two will be based on the author’s second book in the series, ‘The Viscount Who Loved Me’.
