Season two of Bridgerton makes Netflix history with record-breaking views

Season two of Bridgerton has made Netflix history with record-breaking views.

The new season of the popular period drama joined the streaming giant on March 25, and it is currently the number one trending show on the platform worldwide.

Season two sees Anthony Bridgerton (played by Jonathan Bailey) set out to find a wife.

On Tuesday, Netflix announced that season two of Bridgerton had the most successful opening weekend of an English-language TV series on the streaming giant to date, with viewers watching 193 million hours of the period drama.

The hit series is also in Netflix’s Top 10 in 92 of 93 countries where Netflix tracks rankings, and it is number one on the Top 10 list worldwide for English language shows.

Season two also had the second highest opening weekend total of all Netflix series, with the only show to top Bridgerton being Money Heist.

Bridgerton is one of three shows produced by Shonda Rhimes that have been in Netflix’s Top 10, including her new drama mini-series Inventing Anna.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bridgerton is on track to land in Netflix’s all time Top 10 for English-language series in the next few weeks, where its first season is already ranked.

Speaking at a Bridgerton press conference last week, the show’s creator Chris Van Dusen said: “Fans can expect a wild, wild ride this season.”

The screenwriter and producer continued: “We worked really hard to bring everything that fans fell in love with about season one into season two, and I think we did it.”

“It’s amazing, it’s emotional and romantic, and sexy and scandalous, and I think we’re back for an even greater escape into 19th century London.”

Season two of Bridgerton is on Netflix now.
