Rugby star Andrew Trimble pledges to use on-pitch competitiveness to win The Restaurant

Andrew Trimble is the latest celebrity to take over the kitchen in TV3’s The Restaurant.

While Andrew admitted he is not entirely used to working in the kitchen, the rugby player is in it to win it and hopes to impress the critics with his menu.

He said: “I’m competitive on the pitch, I’m competitive with stuff that I’m good at. I think I’ll just naturally get a little bit competitive as it goes along.”

He comes after former Apprentice star Jackie Levin star tried her hand in the kitchen with model Roz Purcell, state pathologist Marie Cassidy and singer Sharon Shannon to have their turns in the coming weeks.

First up is his starter menu, a choice between Octopus, tomato and basil salad with shallots, olives and lemon dressing or Spinach sun-dried tomato and mascarpone ravioli, pine nuts and watercress sage butter.

Andrew, 30, is hoping to melt the hearts of his diners with his ravioli as there are great memories attached to this dish, inspired by a romantic transatlantic trip with his wife Anna.

For his main course, Andrew will be cooking chateaubriand with a wild mushroom causeway pepper sauce sautéed spinach and roasted bab

Finally Andrew’s dessert is a choice of Rhubarb crumble served with vanilla ice cream or “A nod to an Ulster fry” which consists of various components including pana cotta with mango sauce, doughnuts and chocolate biscuit, all presented to resemble the classic breakfast.

The Restaurant airs this Wednesday at 9pm on TV3.
