RTÉ’s Reflecting the Rising largest civic event in Irish history

New figures have revealed that an estimated 750,000 people attended RTÉ’s Reflecting the Rising event on Easter Monday – making it the largest civic event ever in Irish history.

A number of free events were held across Dublin city to mark the centenary of the 1916 Rising, and the entire event was named as “the biggest public history and cultural event ever staged in Ireland,” by organisers.

Over a million people lined the streets of Dublin for the official state celebration and the Reflecting the Rising event.

The Director of Ireland 2016 John Conocannon said RTÉ’s contributions to the event has been “immense”,  at an event in Dublin Castle today, according to RTÉ Entertainment.

The Director also added that they’re still working with RTÉ on a documentary and a finale event for New Years Eve.
