RTE’s Dancing With The Stars is off to a glittering start with over 1.2million viewers tuning

The dance competition made it’s debut on Sunday night with hosts Amanda Byram and Nicky Byrne chatting to the stars – and even showing off their own moves.

The show had an average audience of 640,000 viewers watching the two-hour programme.

On the night, it was just the boys who performed but it was Hometown’s Dayl Cronin and his partner Ksenia Zsikhotsk modern take on the Charleston that wowed the judges, earning them the top spot on the leader board.

“It’s great to see Dancing with the Stars get off to such a strong start,” a spokesperson for RTE said.

“We wanted to bring some glamour and sparkle to Sunday nights on RTE One and create fun family appointment-to-view television.

“Well done to Shinawil and all our celebs for their hard work and we’re looking forward to seeing how the drama unfolds on the dance floor over the next 11 weeks.”

Online, Dancing With The Stars also triumphed as the hashtag #DWTSIrl was trending number one throughout Sundy, while the show’s live Facebook interviews on its RTe One Facebook account received over 70,000 views.

On RTE Player Dancing with the Stars and the Friday night show Can’t Stop Dancing have attracted over 25,000 streams with Des Cahill’s foxtrot the most watched clip on RTE Player to date.
