RTE to make decision on the future of The Voice of Ireland

RTE have confirmed they will make a decision on The Voice “in the coming months”.

The station had previously admitted they were looking to reinvigorate the Sunday evening slot and were accepting submissions for a new entertainment show.

In a statement, the broadcaster praised the show’s stars including Kathryn Thomas for the strong finale but wouldn’t comment on whether the show would be renewed for a fifth series.

“We have previously said we are currently looking at options for this slot,” they said.

“The Voice Of Ireland has enjoyed four strong seasons but as is best practice we are looking at a number of options for 2016, including The Voice.”

“A decisions on this will be made in the coming months,” a spokesperson told The Star.

The final episode of the series attracted an average 470,000 viewers – 16,000 less than last year’s final while the series as a whole garnered an average of 515,000.

It comes after judge Rachel Stevens revealed she would love to return to the show if it’s not axed.
