RTE are planning to target the Snapchat generation with their new show.
The national broadcaster will go head-to-head with TV3’s entertainment programme Xpose with a half-hour show which will be hosted by some of Ireland’s top Snapchat stars.
A source told the Irish Mail on Sunday: “It is felt that Xposé has moved towards an older demographic and that there is definitely a gap in the market for a young vibrant show. The packages will be short and snappy and will all be able to go live online as viral posts.
“The YouTube and Snapchat generation are all tech savvy and hopefully we can put together a show that they can relate to. It needs to be sharp and witty but also fun, colourful and relevant – and we have a formula that will hopefully speak to that 15-30-year-old demographic.
“RTÉ2 is very much a young person’s station and this sort of programme could quickly become a signature brand.”
The paper reports that Roz Purcell, James Butler and James Kavanagh, who are all avid Snapchat users and who have huge online followings, will feature on the show.
The network is working on a pilot, with the show expected to be announced as part of RTE2’s autumn schedule.
