RTÉ boss takes new job at TV3

Bill Malone has announced that he will leave RTÉ, to take on the role of Director of Programming for TV3.

The 46-year-old, who acted as the RTÉ2 channel controller since 2013, will fill Lynda McQuaid’s position at the station, which is owned by Virgin Media.

Bill worked for RTÉ for 18 years, and will now oversee TV3’s programme commissioning, acquisitions and scheduling and will report to TV3 Group Managing Director, Pat Kiely.

According to RTÉ Entertainment, Pat Kiely said, “Bill has a wealth of experience across a range of programming disciplines. This appointment will ensure our programming strategy can continue to deliver great, high quality content especially as we enter a growth phase for the business. Bill is a very strong addition to the team and joins at an exciting time for TV3 Group.”

RTÉ said in a statement, “Bill Malone has made a significant contribution to RTÉ and leaves his role as Channel Controller of RTÉ2 having overseen a successful channel re-brand and re-positioning in autumn 2014, which helped RTÉ2 become the second-most-viewed channel among 15-34s in 2015, after RTÉ One.”

In the meantime, RTÉ will soon place an interim Channel Controller RTÉ2, as well as an interim Managing Director.
