Ratings for The Ellen DeGeneres Show ‘the worst ever’ amid ‘toxic work environment’ claims

Ratings for The Ellen DeGeneres Show have reportedly “plummeted” amid claims of a “toxic work environment” on set.

According to The Wrap the show’s ratings from the week ending July 26th are down 29% from the same time last year, and 9% lower than the previous week.

The Daily Mail reports that whilst all talk shows typically see a decline in viewership during the summer: “Ellen’s show has seen more significant declines than other talk shows.”

It is believed that the recent claims of workplace harassment have stopped viewers from tuning in.

The show has been plagued by claims of bullying, racism and sexual harassment in recent weeks with an internal investigation into the claims being undertaken by the show’s parent company Warner Media.

The talk-show host, 62, said she was “disappointed” to hear the news of the misconduct in a memo sent out to her staff last week, vowing to “take steps to correct the issues”.

Ellen stated: “I’m also learning that people who work with me and for me are speaking on my behalf and misrepresenting who I am and that has to stop.

“As someone who was judged and nearly lost everything for just being who I am, I truly understand and have deep compassion for those being looked at differently, or treated unfairly, not equal, or — worse — disregarded.”

The reports of declining viewership come after it was announced on Tuesday that the show will return in September with Ellen at the helm.

There had been suggestions that the host would be replaced as the presenter of the show, with celebs such as James Corden, Melissa McCarthy and Jennifer Anniston reportedly being considered to replace her.

After a number of stars, including Katy Perry, Kevin Hart and Ellen’s wife Portia de Rossi have come to her defence in recent days.
