Pat Kenny says changes in RTÉ mark ‘the end of an era’

Pat Kenny has admitted that the new changes in RTÉ have marked the “end of an era in one sense.”

The former Late Late Show host, who has worked with the broadcaster for 41 years, left the station in 2013. He now hosts his own radio show for Newstalk.

“No one knows how it’s going to impact the station,” he said.

Despite some of the station’s staff leaving RTE, the Dubliner had kind words to say about their new general director, Dee Forbes.

“This is someone who’s coming in from the commercial sector, and I’ve heard great things about her,” he told the Herald.

“She will work to a different imperative and there is an element of leaping into the unknown.”

Pat revealed that his morning radio show on Newstalk is also going through a change and will be extended from 9am to 12pm next month.

“What excited me then still excites me now. There’s a kind of collegial atmosphere in Newstalk.

“It’s a very co-operative environment,” he added.
