Pat Kenny fails to win the ratings race with new TV3 show

Pat Kenny failed to win in the ratings race last night, as his new current affairs show drew an audience average of less than 173,000 for it’s first episode.

Pat Kenny Tonight is fronted by the former RTE star as well as news anchor Colette Fitzpatrick, and after the show was slammed for being sexist – it looks like viewers seriously aren’t impressed.

According to the Irish Mirror, an average of just 173,000 people tuned in, commanding an audience share of 14%, and then including TV3+1 viewers – the number rose to 183,000.

Overall, 470,000 viewers tuned in over the show’s hour long time slot, and hit a peak of 219,000 viewers.

A TV3 spokesperson has now spoke out to defend the show, “We are very happy and encouraged by how the first outing of Pat Kenny Tonight was received.

“The topic and discussion was lively and we are delighted with the ratings. We look forward to bringing more invigorating debate to viewers every Wednesday over the coming weeks,” they added.
